About
Bio
I am an art historian, curator and consultant. In my work I aim to explore the personal as well as artistic and cultural drivers behind the making and interpretation of art, and to convey these in accessible ways.
From 2019 to 2024 I chaired the Curatorial Committee of the UK's Association for Art History, which has launched curatorial prizes and runs a programme of events on topics of contemporary relevance to the curatorial community. I am also currently on the Executive Board of AICA-UK, an organisation that promotes the interests of art critics.
Pottery is a passion, as is travel. I am based in London and have two grown-up children.
Employment
I worked at Tate as Head of International Art and latterly as Head of Art Historical Research. I have curated major exhibitions at Tate Modern and a prize-winning digital exhibition, established the research journal Tate Papers, and led an innovative programme of online research publishing.
Education
I studied Modern History at the University of Oxford and have a PhD in art history from the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London. I held a Junior Research Fellowship at Somerville College, Oxford, and have been a Getty Scholar and a Fellow of the Dora Maar Foundation in Menerbes, France. In 2023 I was the Thaw Senior Fellow at the Morgan Library and Museum in New York.
